Steve was born and raised a beach boy in Costa Mesa, California. He traveled extensively with his family at a young age, as his father wrote and edited for several fishing magazines, and was thus always in search of the one that got away. Steve's parents later developed a television fishing show called "The Outdoor News Network", which aired on the Nashville Network cable channel, and continued taking their family on fishing adventures throughout the United States and the world. Steve's fishing career included two summers in southeast Alaska, working 15 to 18 hour days at Whalers Cove Lodge and guiding fisherman around the bays and streams of Admiralty, Baranof, and Chichagof Islands.
Steve's fishing career may not have "caught" on, but the traveling did, as Steve has traversed the US East-West nine times, traveled the US west coast countless times, spent three months discovering the back roads of British Columbia, went to Kauai twice, Maui twice, Alaska three times, motorcycled from Mexico to Canada and back, and honeymooned in Puerto Vallarta, Guadalaraja, and Ashland's sister city, Guanajuato. Steve and his wife Tara also spent seven months traveling around the world, with month long stops in China, Thailand, Ireland, France, Spain, Chile and Peru.
Their traveling took a short vacation, as Steve and Tara have been busy raising three boys, Julian and his identical twin brothers, Jackson and Kellen. The twins are out of diapers, and Steve is anxious to pass along the travel bug to the next generation, so he is hard at work planning the best places for a family of four men and one woman to travel. So far the kids, in their youth, have already been to Mexico and Hawaii twice. Julian has found a passion for surfing, and enjoys leafing through surfboard catalogs in his spare time. Kellen plays a mean (but nice!) game of soccer, and Jackson loves everything and everyone.
Steve is currently a self-employed independent retail and internet consultant and is part or full-owner of at least three companies, including The Collaborationists, LLC, which owns and operates this fine web site, Kangearoo.com! His life as a consultant arrived after eighteen years working in the outdoor and travel industry from Costa Mesa to Portland and down to Ashland, Oregon. The hats he has worn in that time include retail store manager, hard goods buyer, climbing and mountaineering instructor, web designer, web project manager, SEO specialist and more.
He can usually tell his twins apart.
